Today is the day! Primary HPV screening starts!
We can now do self collect HPV testing with a swab! A game changer for women. Test done! Super easy!
90% will have a negative test which means we can screen every 5 yrs because it is a better test.
Approx 8% will have a positive test requiring a follow up cervical sample – smear
Approx 2% will have a positive test and require referral to colposcopy.
This test will pick up more abnormalities in the first round of screening therefore we hope to prevent more cervical cancer.
If you are symptomatic with abnormal bleeding or pelvic pain this is not the best test for you, please see your Doctor or practice nurse!
